    We do accept recommendations that might be uploaded after this deadline, but the committee will begin to review completed applications in early January. Only completed applications are reviewed. If your recommender will provide their letter after the deadline, please write to the GPA at polsgrad@uw.edu.

    This is a doctoral program. We do not accept applications for or award MAs only.  We strongly recommend that you review the website in order to determine if this PhD program will serve your career goals and to develop a strong applicant profile.

    Application Fee and Fee Waiver Requests: The Graduate School charges a nonrefundable application fee of $90.00 (USD). See their Application Fee Waivers page for information about waivers, including eligibility information and how to request a waiver.



    Non-Native English Speaker Information
    Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

    Program requirement:
    Non-native speakers must present verification of English Proficiency and present a minimum speaking score from accepted tests. Please NOTE: the department requirements surpass those of the UW Graduate School outlined in Graduate School Policy 5.2.

    Even if you have a BA or MA from institutions accepted in Graduate School Policy 5.2, the Political Science application requires the minimum score on the Speak section of the TOEFL.



    International Student Information
    Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F1 or J1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School.
