Converting between Semester and Quarter Grading Systems

When you are combining semester and quarter gpa's, they need to either be all in semester units or quarter units.
For example, the cumulative gpa summaries below are from the UW (quarter credits) and WSU (semester credits).

Converting to Quarter Credits

If you decide to convert to semester credits, enter the UW credits and grade points as they appear. They are already in quarter units.

Convert the WSU credits and grade points to quarter credits by multiplying by 1.5:

152 sem x 1.5 qtr/sem = 228 qtr credits
525.2 sem grade points x 1.5 qtr/sem = 787.8 qtr grade points

Due to the nature of multiplication vs division, there may be fewer rounding errors by converting from semesters to quarters.

Converting to Semester Credits

If you decide to convert to semester credits, enter the WSU credits and grade points as they appear. They are already in semester units.

Convert the UW credits and grade points to semester credits by dividing by 1.5:

80 qtr / 1.5 sem/qtr = 53.33 sem credits
284.5 qtr grade points / 1.5 sem/qtr = 189.67 sem grade points

Note: Due to rounding, the UW gpa did change a bit in the version.
