    More Information:

    Non-Native English Speaker Information
Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

Program requirement: Please note that official test results provided electronically by the testing agency as proof of English-language proficiency as per the policy should be received by the university by January 15. Please submit your request to your testing agency as soon as possible before the application deadline and note that it can take a minimum of 13 working days for our school to receive and process these scores.

    International Student Information
Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F-1 or J-1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School.

International students are eligible for our first-year fellowships and for possible RA/TA positions.

Unfortunately, international students who will study on F or J visas are not eligible for application fee waivers due to federal requirements tied to eligibility for these visas. Thus application fee waivers administered by the University’s Graduate School here are restricted to certain categories of domestic applicants: https://grad.uw.edu/prospective-students/how-to-apply/application-fee-waivers/. This means that someone must pay the application fee. Our program does not itself have a budget available to pay these fees for applicants. We deeply regret this situation and hope you may find an option to pay the application fee yourself should you decide that this program aligns with your research interests.
