    Requirements and Prerequisites
    • An in-process or earned bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university in the United States or its equivalent from a foreign institute.  
    • A minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average (on a 4.0 scale) for the last 60 semester/90 quarter graded college/university credits. 
    • At least one year of experience in a health care setting, preferably clinical. 
    • Completion of a graded, for-credit basic course in descriptive and inferential statistics (three credits/one quarter). 
    • Demonstrated English-language proficiency for applicants whose native language is not English. 

    GRE Requirements
    GRE Requirement: Optional/Not Required. Submitting GRE scores is not required. However, if official scores are submitted, they may be considered during the review process.
    More Information: GRE is not required.

    Recommendations

    Designate your recommenders online.  They will receive an email requesting that they complete an online form.  If your recommenders do not use email, contact Student and Academic Services as soon as possible:   206.543.8736, asknursing@uw.edu.  

    You must have two letters of recommendation*: 

    1. an academic recommendation 
    2. a recommendation from a current clinical supervisor  

    Guidelines: 

    1. Recommendations should be current (from within two years of application). 
      *We will accept two supervisor recommendations if it has been more than two years since your last academic experience. 
    2. Additional letters of recommendation will not be considered. 
    3. Family members or friends are NOT eligible to write letters of recommendation. 

    You may wish to sit down with your recommenders ahead of time to discuss the questions they will respond to.  They will be sent an email asking them to address the following questions: 

    1. How long have you known this applicant and in what capacity? 
    2. In making this evaluation, what group are you using as a basis for comparison? 
    3. Admission to graduate study in Nursing – Seattle Campus (MS) at the University of Washington is (select one of the following): 
    • Strongly recommended 
    • Recommended 
    • Recommended with reservations 
    • Not recommended 
    • Unable to respond 

    Next, each recommender will be asked to give her/his impression of your: 

    1. Ability as a scholar 
    2. Clinical nurse competence (for applicants with nursing backgrounds only) 
    3. Teaching and supervisory potential or ability 
    4. Personality, integrity, and ability 
    5. Potential for research and professional development 


    Non-Native English Speaker Information
    All non-native speakers of English, regardless of citizenship, must show proof of English language proficiency as established by the UW School of Nursing and the UW Graduate School.

    Applicants can waive the English proficiency requirements only if they:  

    have received a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S. or an institution in an approved country, OR  

    can provide official documentation from the institution verifying the applicant's undergraduate degree is from an institution where all instruction was in English. 

    An MS-CIPCT applicant who has a score under the minimum score can still apply to and MAY be admitted to the MS-CIPCT program, but upon matriculation would be required to take designated courses through the University of Washington Academic English Program (AEP).   

    Self-report your scores in your online application and request official English proficiency scores be sent to the University of Washington (UW Institution Code: 4854). 
     

    International Student Information
    The CIPCT program is completely online, and no visa is required to attend. International applicants are welcome and encouraged to apply.

    International applicants must meet all admission requirements for the program. 

    You must send foreign transcript evaluations for any college or university you have attended outside the United States. To meet UW Graduate School requirements, this must be done through World Education Services (WES) International Credential Advantage Package (ICAP)

    The UW Graduate School doesn't accept WES Basic or any other credential evaluations. For more information, review the UW Graduate School's official transcript requirements

    Send official foreign transcripts to WES for a course-by-course U.S. equivalency report. Have the evaluation reports sent to you. Your application will include: 

    1. Original foreign transcripts with English translations 

    1. Transcript evaluation reports (upload to the Credential/Transcript Evaluations section of your application) 

    You don't need to submit a foreign transcript if you attended a foreign university through a study abroad program and the credits appear on your school’s transcript, but you must submit a foreign transcript and evaluation if you are using a course taken internationally as a prerequisite course.
