    December 15 is the deadline for all applicants (U.S. & International) who want to be considered for departmental funding in addition to admission. Please note, departmental funding is not guaranteed and highly competitive at the master's level.

    July 1 is the deadline for all applicants (U.S. & International) who want to be considered for admission only, without consideration for departmental funding.

    Requirements and Prerequisites

    Current mechanical engineering undergraduates from the UW Seattle campus or ME Seattle undergraduates that have graduated within the past year only need to submit one recommendation letter to complete their application.
    GRE Requirements
    GRE Requirement: Not Considered. GRE scores are not required and, if submitted, will not be considered during the admissions decision process.
    Additional Instructions
    All application materials should be submitted through the online application system. Please do not mail any materials to the Mechanical Engineering Department.

    Non-Native English Speaker Information
    Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

    International Student Information
    Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F1 or J1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School.

    Funding is very competitive for international MSME applicants and most should anticipate covering their own educational expenses
