    Requirements and Prerequisites

    Applicants must complete the following required coursework by December 31 of the year they submit their application or their application will not be considered:
    1. College-level calculus (ordinary differential equations, integration, Taylor series, and applications)
      • UW Example: MATH 124, MATH 125, MATH 126
    2. Linear Algebra (UW Example: MATH 208)
    3. Statistical Inference (UW Example: STAT 394, STAT 395)
    Additional advanced coursework in mathematics, probability, statistics (400-level coursework)

    Minimum 3.00 GPA in last 60 semester or last 90 quarter credits

    Minimum TOEFL score of 580 (237 for computer-based tests) – for international students only

    Recommendation: Competitive applicants typically take advanced coursework or have work/research experience spanning at least two of the following quantitative areas: mathematics, statistical inference and modeling, mathematical probability, optimization and at least one of the following areas: biology, ecology and evolution, or resource management.
    GRE Requirements
    GRE Requirement: Optional/Not Required. Submitting GRE scores is not required. However, if official scores are submitted, they may be considered during the review process.
    More Information: GRE scores are optional and will not be a factor used to rank applicants during the application review process.

    Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.
