    Requirements and Prerequisites
    Background in mathematics, statistics, data science, computer science or a quantitative field, with 30 or more quarter credits in mathematics and statistics, to include a year of advanced (second-year) calculus, one course of linear algebra, and one course in probability theory.  Knowledge of basic programming concepts along with familiarity with a high-level programming language such as R, Python or MATLAB.
    GRE Requirements
    GRE Requirement: Other. The department does not require the submission of any GRE test scores. Scores in the GRE General Test are not used at all by STAT department in making admission decisions to our programs. GRE Mathematics Subject Test scores are optional and can be used by students to demonstrate a level of skill in mathematics that exceeds what could be inferred from other application materials. However, not submitting GRE Mathematics Subject Test scores does not have a negative effect on an applicant's chances of being admitted into our graduate programs.

    This program recommends applicants to self-report unofficial test scores while required official test scores are pending to be received by UW.

    Non-Native English Speaker Information
    Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

    International Student Information
    Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F-1 or J-1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School.
