Ph.D. students are admitted by vote of the graduate faculty on the basis of their language skills in both their target Slavic language and English, general background in Slavic cultures, previous academic performance, research interests, and alignment of these interests with available departmental and university resources. It is essential that Ph.D. candidates review the faculty research and teaching concentrations and consider potential advisors and committee members. Additional Instructions Any applicant interested in a Teaching Assistantship needs to complete the T.A. application. This form is available on the Graduate Admissions page on the departmental website, under the Funding heading. Non-Native English Speaker Information Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.
