    Requirements and Prerequisites
The department accepts applications from students who have or will complete a Bachelor’s Degree prior to beginning graduate study. A degree in Russian or Slavic Studies is preferred, but not required for admission. Applicants with degrees in other fields should already have completed significant coursework in their desired area of study. Four years of Slavic language study is advisable, or whatever is the maximum number of years of study for a given Slavic language available at one’s university. Students with equivalent experience and study of Slavic literatures, cultures, and history will be considered, but may be required to take additional courses to make up deficiencies. Our chief criteria for acceptance are a record of academic achievement and the promise of future success and competence in academic or non-academic pursuits.
    GRE Requirements
GRE Requirement: Not Considered. GRE scores are not required and, if submitted, will not be considered during the admissions decision process.
    Additional Instructions
Any applicant interested in a Teaching Assistantship needs to complete the T.A. application. This form is available on the Graduate Admissions page on the departmental website, under the Funding heading.

    Non-Native English Speaker Information
Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

Program information: If you are using an official English Language Test score to meet the requirement for English language proficiency, please self-report your score on the Self-Reported Test Scores page, in addition to officially submitting your scores electronically to the University of Washington.
