    Requirements and Prerequisites
    Admission requirements include:
    • Evidence of aptitude for computer programming (work experience, a graded course, etc)
    • A college-level introductory course in linguistics or equivalent
    • Some knowledge of languages other than English is strongly encouraged

    The computational linguistics core course sequence also requires:
    • Ability to program in python
    • Statistics and probability (equivalent to STAT 394 at UW)
    • Math through multivariable calculus (partial derivatives / gradients) and some linear algebra

    Non-Native English Speaker Information
    Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.
