    Requirements and Prerequisites
    An undergraduate degree from a regionally-accredited institution or a degree in linguistics or a closely-related field or significant linguistics coursework.

    Letters of Recommendation: Three letters, preferably from people familiar with your academic work and especially with your work in linguistics courses are required. You will be asked as part of the on-line application process to provide email addresses of your recommenders so they can upload these recommendations.

    GRE Requirements
    GRE Requirement: Optional/Not Required. Submitting GRE scores is not required. However, if official scores are submitted, they may be considered during the review process.

    Additional Instructions
    Applicants wishing to be considered for foreign language teaching (Asian, Romance, Slavic for instance) assistantships should review information on the respective program websites.Non-Native English Speaker Information
    Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

    Program requirement: Non-native English speakers must also meet the requirements outlined in Graduate School Policy 5.2.
