    All international & domestic application materials must be received by December 15. Although international applicants should try to submit their materials a little sooner, there is no penalty as long as they are received by December 15.

    Program Admissions Requirements

    Requirements/Prerequisite:
    • GRE
    • At least intermediate level micro- and macroeconomics;
    • 1 year of calculus;
    • 1 quarter/semester of linear algebra;
    • 1 quarter/semester of statistics
    Strongly Recommended:
    • Differential equations
    • Matrix algebra
    • Additional calculus 
    • Statistics

    An undergraduate major in economics is not required provided if you have sufficient coursework to meet application requirements.
    GRE Requirements
    GRE Requirement: Required. Official GRE scores are required for all applicants in order to be considered for admission. The UW institution code for the GRE is 4854.
     

    Non-Native English Speakers
    Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

    Program requirement: International applicants who are non-native English speakers are required to submit one of the following:

    1. A qualifying test score (TOEFL, IELTS, DuoLingo) OR
    2. Transcript from a completed or soon to be completed bachelor's or master's degree at a qualifying institution.

    International Student Information
    Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F1 or J1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School.

    As well as the strength of the rest of the application, if applicable, the speaking section of the TOEFLiBT will be given considerable weight in international funding decisions. A score of 26/30 is strongly desirable.
