    All international & domestic application materials must be received by December 15. Although international applicants should try to submit their materials a little sooner, there is no penalty as long as they are received by December 15.

    Requirements and Prerequisites
    Required:
    • GRE
    • At least intermediate level micro- and macroeconomics;
    • 1 year of calculus;
    • 1 quarter/semester of linear algebra;
    • 1 qtr/smstr of statistics
    Strongly recommended: Differential equations; matrix algebra; additional calculus and statistics.

    An undergraduate major in economics is not required provided you have sufficient coursework to meet application requirements.

    Non-Native English Speaker Information
    Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

    Program requirement: All international applicants are required to submit a valid TOEFLiBT score unless one of the following conditions applies:

    1. You are a native English speaker AND/OR
    2. You have completed, or will have completed, a entire bachelor's degree at an accredited US institution. This exception does not apply to students who complete a master's degree at a US institution.

    International Student Information
    Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F1 or J1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School.

    As well as the strength of the rest of the application, if applicable, the speaking section of the TOEFLiBT will be given considerable weight in international funding decisions. A score of 26/30 is strongly desirable.
