    GRE Requirements
    GRE Requirement: Not Considered. GRE scores are not required and, if submitted, will not be considered during the admissions decision process.

    Non-Native English Speaker Information
    1. Applicants who do not hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States, or from an institution in Australia, the Bahamas, Canada, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, or the United Kingdom, where English is the medium of instruction, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), or Juris Doctor (JD) from a regionally accredited institution located in the United States where English is the medium of instruction are required to submit a TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores. (Note: while enrolled at the degree-granting school the student must be in residence on campus)
    2. A master’s degree from a country listed in #1 does not satisfy this requirement.
    3. Students who do not meet the requirements of #1 are required to submit TOELF, IELTS or Duolingo scores that meet the following test scores: 
      • > 23 on the listening, reading & writing, and 23-25 on the speaking sections of the TOEFL-iBT on file with the UW.
      • > 6.75 on the listening, reading & writing, and 6.0-6.5 on the speaking sections of the IELTS on file with the UW.
      • > 125 on the literacy, and speaking or conversation sections of the Duolingo DET on file with the UW
    4. Applicants not meeting these criteria will be automatically denied.

    International Student Information
    Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F-1 or J-1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School.

    Typical departmental funding is provided for a period of two years, depending on satisfactory progress and availability of funding. Two additional years possible upon meeting benchmarks on the proscribed degree timeline.

    Suggested deadline for international applicants is January 1. GRE scores are not required but are encouraged.
