    Requirements and Prerequisites
    A bachelor's degree in the natural sciences or engineering from a regionally accredited college or university, or its equivalent foreign institution. The minimum required grade point average is 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for the last 60 semester or the last 90 quarter credits. Students whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency. GRE not accepted.

    GRE Requirement: Not Considered. GRE scores are not required and, if submitted, will not be considered during the admissions decision process.
    Additional Instructions
    Submit email addresses of recommenders at least 4-6 weeks ahead of the deadline in order to give recommenders time to submit letters.

    Once your application is submitted you cannot make changes to your personal statement or CV.

    We do not accept updates to your personal statement, CV or transcript after the application deadline has passed.

    Non-Native English Speaker Information
    Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

    Program requirement: Students who are not native speakers of English must meet minimum English language proficiency: TOEFL iBT: 92. A score of ≥26 on the speaking section is required in order to be exempt from further English testing. Applicants with a TOEFL iBT speak score in the range of 22–25 are also encouraged to apply if they have an exceptionally strong academic record.

    International Student Information
    Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F-1 or J-1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School.

    Applicants will automatically be considered for Teaching or Research Assistantships in the Department of Chemistry.
