It is recommended that applicants complete an undergraduate program appropriate for graduate work in anthropology, but an undergraduate degree in anthropology is not required. Applicants are not required to submit GRE's. Applicants should consider looking through the faculty page to determine whose research most aligns with your fields of interest. Faculty members serve as graduate student advisors so, prospective applicants should consider contacting faculty directly to see if they are accepting new graduate students. If you are applying to our MPH/PhD program, make sure to fill out the Concurrent Application questions in the Program Selection section of this application. Self-Reported Test Scores Applicants are not required to submit GRE's. Letters of Recommendation We require three letters of recommendation. The letters can come from anyone who is familiar with your interests and goals and should emphasize your promise for success in graduate study. Most applicants share their statements of purpose and personal statements with potential letter writers, who are typically past professors or work supervisors. Transcripts We require transcripts from academic institutions you have attended. English Language Learners may have to submit test scores. Additional Instructions Applicants may apply for and be admitted for autumn quarter only. Next admission cycle for Sociocultural Anthropology will be for Autumn 2024 (apply by December 15th). Non-Native English Speaker Information Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2. International Student Information Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F-1 or J-1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School. Department funding is limited.
