    Requirements and Prerequisites
    Familiarity with differential equations, linear algebra, and scientific computing or numerical analysis is expected.

    All application materials, including letters of recommendation and application fee, are due by the posted deadline. You may need to remind your letter writers of the deadline. No hard-copy application materials should be mailed to the department.


    GRE Requirements
    GRE Requirement: Optional/Not Required. Submitting GRE scores is not required. However, if official scores are submitted, they may be considered during the review process.
    More Information: GRE General and/or Subject Scores are not required, but optional.

    Additional Instructions
    Applicants who are considering both the PhD and the MS program should apply to the PhD program. If not admitted to the PhD program, applicants are automatically considered for the MS programs. GRE scores are not required, but optional. Please review our admissions page for more details.


    Non-Native English Speaker Information
    Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

    Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F1 or J1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School.
