    Requirements and Prerequisites
    • A bachelor's degree in the natural sciences or engineering from an accredited college or university in the United States, or its equivalent from a foreign institution.
    • Minimum 3.0 grade-point-average on a 4 point scale (or equivalent measures of performance if a graduate of an institution with no grading system) for those credits earned at the institution awarding the bachelor’s degree OR at least a 3.0 grade-point-average (on a 4 point scale) for the last 90 graded quarter credits or 60 graded semester credits. For more information please refer to Policy 3.1 Graduate Admissions.
    • Applicants with a below 3.0 GPA who have an otherwise strong application should contact the program coordinator for guidance.
    • Two recommendations are required. A third recommendation is optional.
    • Demonstrated English language proficiency for applicants whose native language is not English.
    • The GRE or subject GRE is not required.

    GRE Requirements
    GRE Requirement: Not Considered. GRE scores are not required and, if submitted, will not be considered during the admissions decision process.

    Additional Instructions
    You MUST complete a Graduate School application online before your application will be considered. Submit email address of recommenders on the online application form at least 4-6 weeks ahead of the deadline in order to give recommenders sufficient time to submit letters. Check application status online. Once submitted you cannot change your personal statement. All components of a student's application are required in order for the application to be evaluated.

    Non-Native English Speaker Information
    Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

    International Student Information
    Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F1 or J1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School.
