    Admission Requirements and Contact Information

Please note these are soft deadlines, and final application materials (recommendations, test scores) will be accepted up to an approximate 7-day window after the final domestic deadline. We strongly recommend international applications meet the December deadline to allow for test score and other possible communication delays, but applications will be reviewed as long as all materials are received and the application is entirely complete within 7 days of the final domestic deadline.

    Additional Instructions
Please read our admissions overview and application procedure pages for further details and instructions.Non-Native English Speaker Information
Graduate School requirement: English language proficiency (ELP) is required for graduate study at the University of Washington. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined in Graduate School Policy 3.2.

Program requirement: Please note that official test results provided electronically by the testing agency as proof of English-language proficiency as per the policy should be received by the university by December 1 and must be received by January 2. Please submit your request to your testing agency as soon as possible before the application deadline and note that it can take a minimum of 13 working days for our school to receive and process these scores.
    International Student Information
Applicants who will need a visa should reference the International Applicant Information page. If admitted to the program, international students requesting an F-1 or J-1 visa will be required to provide financial ability documentation to the UW Graduate School.

International students are eligible for our first-year fellowships and for possible RA/TA positions.

We strongly encourage international applicants to complete their applications by the December 1st deadline to allow time to resolve any application issues. However, late applications can be accepted as long as materials are entirely complete within of 7-day window of the domestic application deadline of January 2.

Unfortunately, international students who will study on F or J visas are not eligible for application fee waivers due to federal requirements tied to eligibility for these visas. Thus application fee waivers administered by the University’s Graduate School here are restricted to certain categories of domestic applicants: https://grad.uw.edu/prospective-students/how-to-apply/application-fee-waivers/. This means that someone must pay the application fee. Our program does not itself have a budget available to pay these fees for applicants. We deeply regret this situation and hope you may find an option to pay the application fee yourself should you decide that this program aligns with your research interests.
